1977: South African black student leader Steve Biko dies in police custody
1984: Michael Jordan signs a seven-year contract to play basketball with the Chicago Bulls.
2013: Ray Dolby died at the age of eighty after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and being diagnosed with leukemia. Dolby was known for his breakthrough work with sound recording. He helped develop the technology to cut out background noise in tape recording and developed surround sound.
