Sheboygan Child-Care Center A Million Dreamz to Open in March – Here’s What You Need to Know, with Nearly 300 Kids Already on Waitlist
After enduring several delays, A Million Dreamz will open its first classrooms on March 1, providing childcare services 24/7. The 39 children capacity will be spread out among the sky, castle, rainbow, and garden classrooms, with plans to accommodate children of varying ages, depending on the waitlist. The facility aims to support 200 children per shift once it is fully operational, providing more flexible care options for families.
The waitlist has ballooned to 296 children, an increase of 170 since September. This surge underscores the dire need for child-care providers in Sheboygan County. In fact, the state of Wisconsin declared the area a child-care desert, with one licensed spot for every three children in need, according to Berry. More than 350 children were known to be on child-care waiting lists in the county as of January 2022, per the Childcare Taskforce report.
Despite the challenges, the center is committed to its three-phase construction plan, which will include additional classrooms, offices, a kitchen, and gross motor space. However, to complete this timely expansion, A Million Dreamz is seeking financial support to reach its capital campaign goal of $1.8 million. Individuals can offer monetary support through one-time donations, annual pledges, or room sponsorships.
The center is also seeking to add more staff to its current team of 17. “We are excited to finally be bringing services to families,” said Angel Berry, CEO and co-founder of A Million Dreamz. “It has been a long road to get here, and we couldn’t be happier to finally welcome children to our space.” The Sheboygan Chamber of Commerce and A Million Dreamz will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Feb. 22, with a chance to tour the facility ahead of its official launch.
