SCEDC to Develop New Housing Community on 32 Acres in Plymouth, Wisconsin
The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) is set to embark on a significant housing development project in Plymouth, Wisconsin. This ambitious plan, which will unfold over the next several months, represents the SCEDC’s ongoing commitment to expanding home ownership opportunities in Sheboygan County.
A Vision for Plymouth’s Future
The project will span 32 acres of land in Plymouth, with construction expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. As the SCEDC collaborates with the city of Plymouth, the final details of the development will be solidified, but the current vision includes the creation of single-family homes and potentially other housing options made available to third-party developers.
This marks the third subdivision initiated under the SCEDC’s Housing Initiative, a program supported by the Forward Fund. The Forward Fund was launched to address the pressing need for affordable housing in the county, particularly following the challenges posed by the Great Recession.
Supporting Growth in Sheboygan County
Brian Doudna, Executive Director of the SCEDC, highlighted the importance of this development in a recent statement: “The Forward Fund is designed to address some of the barriers in the current housing market that started during the Great Recession. Sheboygan County simply needs more single-family housing units that are available and affordable to area residents seeking to purchase a home and also attract new working families who want to work and live here.”
The Forward Fund has been made possible through contributions from several prominent local companies, including Johnsonville, Kohler Co., Masters Gallery Foods, Inc., and Sargento. These companies recognize the critical role that affordable housing plays in supporting the region’s economic growth and workforce development.
A Track Record of Success
This upcoming project in Plymouth follows the success of two previous subdivisions funded by the Forward Fund. The first, Founders’ Pointe, is a 54-home community in Sheboygan Falls, where construction began in May 2023. The second project, the Founders’ Pointe Neighborhood, is set to break ground this fall.
The SCEDC’s efforts are also bolstered by $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated by Sheboygan County to advance the housing program. These funds have been crucial in enabling the construction of entry-level single-family homes, which remain the primary focus of the Forward Fund.
Looking Ahead
As the SCEDC and the city of Plymouth work together to finalize the plans for this 32-acre development, the anticipation builds for what promises to be a transformative project for the community. With a clear commitment to making home ownership more accessible, the SCEDC is not only helping to address Sheboygan County’s housing needs but also laying the foundation for a thriving future.
