Powerboat Racing Returns to Sheboygan Lakefront This Weekend
SHEBOYGAN, WI – August 8, 2024 – The 2nd Annual Sheboygan Midwest Challenge, organized by Powerboat P1, will take place this weekend, from August 9 to 11, on Lake Michigan. The event features two full days of powerboat racing on Saturday and Sunday, creating an exciting and festive atmosphere.
The weekend kicks off on:
Friday, August 9
- 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm: Downtown Block Party at City Green
- Powerboats on display
- Food concessions
- Live music by the U.S. Army Rock Band at 6:00 pm
- Live music by King of Mars at 7:00 pm
Saturday, August 10
- 11:00 am – 6:00 pm: Brat Fry at the Sheboygan Yacht Club
- 11:00 am – 4:00 pm: Powerboat Racing
Sunday, August 11
- 10:00 am: Opening Ceremonies with a flyover by the US Air Force Aerial Events Team
- 10:00 am – 3:00 pm: Powerboat Racing
- 5:00 pm: Race Awards Ceremony in the VIP area

VIP tickets are still available, offering upgraded amenities, a live stream of the races, expanded seating, and enhanced dining and beverage options with a cashless purchase system. Corporate hospitality areas are also available. Christy Masters, Hospitality Director, stated, “We aim to create a memorable experience for race fans and attract more people to this thrilling sport.”
Last year’s event generated an estimated $4.7 million in economic impact and attracted 43,000 visitors to the area. The event significantly boosted the local economy and raised Sheboygan’s profile, with Powerboat P1’s national and international television coverage reaching a worldwide audience of over 230 million homes. Sheboygan Mayor, Ryan Sorenson, expressed his excitement for the event’s return, stating, “I am thrilled to welcome back this exhilarating event to the Malibu of the Midwest. It not only showcases our city’s beautiful shoreline and Lake Michigan but also brings an opportunity for our local businesses and entrepreneurs to shine.”
Community partners for the event include Visit Sheboygan, the City of Sheboygan, Mercury Racing, and the Sheboygan County Chamber. Net proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the P1 Marine Foundation, a non-profit focused on marine conservation. Sheboygan received the APBA Best Race Site Award last year for hosting the inaugural Midwest Challenge. This is the third event in the 2024 P1 Offshore series, following races in Cocoa Beach, FL, and Lake of the Ozarks. Upcoming races include Sarasota, FL in September, and St. Petersburg, FL in October.
