Overnight Closure of I-43: Sheboygan to Manitowoc, Here’s What You Need to Know
An overnight closure of the I-43, both north and southbound lanes, is slated for Wednesday, June 14th, affecting traffic in Sheboygan and Manitowoc Counties, according to a recent announcement by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region. The shutdown, extending from WIS 42 in Sheboygan County to County XX in Manitowoc County, will commence at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and continue until 5 a.m. the following day, Thursday, June 15th.
This temporary closure has been necessitated by The American Transmission Company (ATC) conducting an overhead stringing operation, wherein lines will be strung across the freeway. Prioritizing safety during this process, a full closure of I-43 has been deemed essential.
To navigate this temporary disruption, travelers have been advised to follow the recommended detours. For those traveling northbound on I-43, the detour will take them off onto WIS 42, then onto County Road XX, and back to I-43. Conversely, southbound I-43 traffic should exit onto County Road XX, follow it to WIS 42, and then take WIS 42 back to I-43.
This closure is part of a larger project by the ATC, which involves the installation of a new, robust, 6.5-mile, 138,000-volt transmission line. This operation calls for an 8.5-mile closure of the I-43 and the rerouting of traffic along State Highway 42 and Highway XX.

As Sheboygan and Manitowoc Counties brace for this closure, motorists are encouraged to stay informed and plan their journeys accordingly to ensure a smooth commute during this period.
