The City of Sheboygan is excited to host its annual Memorial Day Parade and Celebration on Monday, May 27, 2024. This event is organized in collaboration with U.S. Veterans, active-duty personnel, the Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office, and Launch: Lakeland Student-Run Businesses, with generous support from Kohler Credit Union. The parade will take place downtown, starting at 9:00 am at the corner of 7th Street and Center Avenue, progressing north to Michigan Avenue, then west to 9th Street, and finally south, concluding at Fountain Park.
This event pays tribute to the valor of those who sacrificed their lives for our nation and celebrates the ongoing commitment of those currently serving. Festivities begin at 8:45 am with a motivation run by potential Marine Corps recruits, organized by the Marine Corps Recruiting Station Milwaukee, symbolizing their discipline and camaraderie.
Following the parade, a solemn ceremony will be held at Fountain Park, with a keynote speech from Chief Boatswain’s Mate Roberto D. Bobonis of the U.S. Coast Guard, honoring the service and sacrifice of our military members. The celebration continues with a Brat Fry at the park, with all proceeds going to the Military and Youth Foundation and Marine Corps League, providing a great opportunity for community engagement and support for veterans and youth initiatives.
Mayor Sorenson expressed pride in hosting this significant event, highlighting its role in commemorating military sacrifices and bringing the community together in remembrance and support. Participants are encouraged to embrace the reflective nature of the day.
