Cleveland lakeshore technical college has received $1.94 million in grant fund
Cleveland Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) has been awarded a substantial grant of $1.94 million from the Wisconsin Technical College System. This funding will be utilized to support LTC’s competency-based education programs, including nursing, information technology, web and software development, and manufacturing. Competency-based learning allows students to start programs outside of traditional start dates and complete them as soon as they demonstrate mastery of the required skills. This approach is particularly advantageous for students who work or have families, and it also benefits employers by providing them with skilled workers in a more efficient manner.
In addition to the competency-based education programs, the grant will be used to fund student support services, nontraditional occupations, professional growth initiatives, and adult literacy and basic education programs at the college. This nearly $2 million award is only the latest in a series of grants that LTC has successfully secured.
In November, the college was named a finalist for the prestigious Bellwether Award, in recognition of its pre-award grant strategy, which has significantly increased the amount of grant money awarded to the school over the past year. LTC President Dr. Paul Carlson expressed his satisfaction with the college’s success, stating, “Our continued success in securing grant funding means we have more targeted resources to teach and support students on their academic journey.”
LTC is a nationally recognized community and technical college that educates over 8,000 students annually. The college has received multiple accolades, including being ranked number two in the nation by Washington Monthly and number 17 in the nation by Forbes. Furthermore, the college was named the 2021 Large Business/Industry of the Year by the Chamber of Manitowoc County.
This influx of grant funding will enable LTC to continue expanding its educational offerings and support services, ensuring that students receive the highest quality education and resources possible. As LTC continues to excel in securing grant funding, it demonstrates its commitment to fostering student success and meeting the needs of the community it serves.
