With a focus on communication and collaboration, daily communication logs ensure caregivers stay informed about their clients’ activities and progress.
For past summer camp participants, Camp Evergreen provides weekend respite opportunities from late August to early May, offering two weekends each month for campers to unwind and enjoy their time away from home. With activities like arts and crafts, movies, music, dancing, and games, the weekend respite program allows parents and care providers a much-needed break from their daily routine. Sponsoring a camper or making a donation to Camp Evergreen can make a world of difference for both the child and their family, creating lasting memories and enriching lives.
Camp Evergreen has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1926 by Charles E. Broughton as Kiddies Camp, a summer camp for underprivileged children. Over time, the camp’s focus shifted towards serving children and adults with cognitive disabilities, and in the 1980s, it was renamed Camp Evergreen to reflect its commitment to both young and old. Today, Camp Evergreen continues to evolve, with exciting new projects in the pipeline, such as The Natatorium Project, aimed at enhancing the camp experience for its participants.
The Natatorium Project stems from the campers’ love for swimming and the many benefits it offers, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Camp Evergreen’s current 34′ x 60′ ADA-compliant outdoor pool is a popular activity among campers, and the goal of enclosing the pool for year-round use has become a priority. The camp’s Board of Directors has launched a capital campaign to raise the $1.5 million needed to fund the project, with the hope that the community will recognize its significant positive impact.
An enclosed pool facility would address a critical need in the greater Sheboygan area, as no other facility currently caters to the physically and cognitively challenged population. The benefits of pool activities are numerous, including improved strength, coordination, range of motion, circulation, cardiovascular endurance, and decreased pain, anxiety, and depression. A year-round pool would not only enhance the physical and mental well-being of Camp Evergreen’s clients but also promote inclusion and independence within the community.
The Natatorium Project has already received $200,000 in donations, but further contributions are needed to reach the $1.5 million goal. By supporting this ambitious project, community members can help make a significant difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. The enclosed pool will not only benefit Camp Evergreen campers but also serve as a valuable asset to the greater Sheboygan area, providing a much-needed resource for this underserved population. With your contribution, you can help Camp Evergreen continue its mission of enriching the lives of its campers and their families.
As Camp Evergreen embarks on this ambitious journey, your support is vital in helping us achieve our goal of building the Natatorium. Our campers’ testimonials, like Kelly S., a mother of six Camp Evergreen participants, highlight the importance of a year-round facility tailored to their needs. By enclosing the pool, we can offer more physical activities, especially during colder months, and protect clients from the harsh summer sun and heat.
To ensure transparency and accountability, Camp Evergreen is prepared to provide additional information regarding the construction and operational costs of the Natatorium Project upon request. Photos and references from our existing client base and other community stakeholders interested in utilizing this asset upon completion are also available to those considering contributing to this project.
The Camp Evergreen Board of Directors and staff members are committed to making the Natatorium Project a reality for the benefit of campers and the broader community. By supporting this project, you will not only help improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities but also contribute to the growth and development of the greater Sheboygan area. We believe that the enclosed pool is more than just a luxury; it is a necessity for those with special needs.
Camp Evergreen is dedicated to enriching the lives of its campers and their families through accessible, compassionate, and inclusive programming. The Natatorium Project is a significant step in expanding and enhancing the services we offer, and with your help, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of our clients and the greater Sheboygan community. Your contribution will not only help us reach our $1.5 million goal but also ensure that Camp Evergreen remains a beacon of hope and opportunity for years to come.
