Sanderling Nature Center at Kohler-Andrae State Park
Nestled amidst the dunes and overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan, the Sanderling Nature Center at Kohler-Andrae State Park provides a wealth of information about the park’s wildlife, vegetation, history, and sand dunes. The nature center is located approximately one mile north of the campground and 0.25 miles south of the park entrance.
Things to Do
- Explore exhibits and interactive kiosks
- Watch an 8-minute movie “Welcome to Kohler-Andrae” or other nature films
- Read together from the picture book collection
- Observe Lake Michigan vessels and waterfowl from the rooftop observation deck
- Participate in educational programs for children and adults (May-October)
- Become a Wisconsin Explorer and discover the natural world with a booklet from the nature center
- Shop for souvenirs at the nature center gift shop (operated by the Friends of Kohler-Andrae State Park)
- Take a walk on the Creeping Juniper Nature Trail or Dunes Cordwalk starting from the nature center
Gift Shop
- A variety of souvenirs are available, including field guides, park clothing, chocolates, patches, note cards, and more
- Profits from the gift shop support park improvements through the Friends of Kohler-Andrae State Park
Volunteers
- The nature center is staffed by local volunteers who donate their time and expertise to keep the building open for visitors to enjoy
- Volunteers help at the front desk, sell items, and develop displays
